You will be able to search for books that match how your kids like to read with their interests and favourite genres. This small change will make a big difference.

Types of reader

Short-and-sweet

Short and sweet readers are suited to a page-turner that holds their attention. They often prefer a story with a strong theme or action from the start that will capture their interest and keep them reading steadily. As they develop their reading stamina and independence, books full of short chapters, stories or short in length are often a good choice.

Developing reader

Developing readers are practising their reading skills. They need to hear fluent reading and enjoy stories whilst developing key skills and building independence over time. Books need the right balance of print and text and the right size font for developing readers to become independent.

Rapid-reader

Rapid readers have reading stamina. They enjoy reading and often seek out new books for themselves. Rapid readers will need to choose from a wide range of genres to find enough age-appropriate texts to keep them happy.

Character-driven

Character focused readers enjoy books where they can relate and care deeply about the main characters - in fact; kids often want to be them!  This type of reader likes a wide range of genres as long as the characters are richly described and beautifully developed.

Savour-the-moment

Savour the moment readers love a story where the detail builds up. They need time to stop and discuss their ideas and can have strong options and ideas about the characters and get carried away with the right plot.

Thrill-seekers

Thrill seeker readers love books with fast-paced action and excitement. Any text that is full of drama or intrigue suits them well.
